    BFUJ President Omar Farooq, Secretary General Deep Azad


    Omar Farooq has been elected president and Deep Azad has been elected secretary general of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).

    The election management committee announced the results at the National Press Club on Saturday night.

    In the election of BFUJ, 34 candidates contested for the post of President, Vice-President, Secretary General, Joint Secretary General, Treasurer, Office Secretary and four executive members.

    Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Abu Jafar Surya and Omar Farooq contested for the post of president. Omar Farooq was elected with 64 votes.

    Amiya Ghatak Pulak, Ajmal Haque Helal, Madhusudan Mandal, Mofida Akbar and Salam Mahmud contested for the post of vice-president. Ajmal Haque Helal was elected to the post with 394 votes.

    Abdul Majid, Deep Azad and Layekuzzaman contested for the post of Secretary General. Deep Azad was elected with 928 votes.

    Nasima Akhter Soma, Barun Bhowmik Nayan, Manik Lal Ghosh and Sheikh Mamunur Rashid contested for the post of Joint Secretary General. Nasima Akhter Soma was elected with 505 votes.

    Khairuzzaman Kamal, Nazrul Kabir and Mohammad Abu Saeed fought for the post of treasurer. Khairuzzaman Kamal was elected with 585 votes.

    M Shahjahan, Masum Ahmed, Mir Afroz Zaman, Rezaul Karim Reza, Shah Alam Dakua and Sebika Rani contested for the post of office secretary. Sebika Rani was elected with 606 votes.

    Four members fought for the post, Abdul Khaleq Lavlu, Ummul Wara Sweety, MA Rahim Rono, Dr. Utpal Kumar Sarkar, Noor Jannat Akhtar Seema, Md. Safiur Rahman, Shahjahan Swapan, Sheikh Nazmul Haque Saikat, Shafiuddin Ahmed Bittu and Hamid Mohammad Jasim.

    Ummul Wara Sweety has been selected among them, said. Utpal Kumar Sarkar, Noor Jannat Akhtar Seema and Sheikh Nazmul Haque Beach.

    Simultaneous polling was held at 10 centers across the country, including Dhaka, from 9 am to 5 pm. Shahjahan Sardar, editor of Bangladesh Journal, was the chairman of the six-member election management committee formed for this year's election.
